- Incumbents are incentivized to bundle. Horizontal platforms already own the primary workflow, and expand to capture more value (ChatGPT, Mistral  Enterprise, Notion, Figma…)
- The barrier to shipping is lower than ever. Teams can build breadth quickly. As result, most tools are converging to a common feature set: search, deep research, augmented writing, unstructured data capture, etc.
- 10x rule for startups. We now compete against ChatGPT across every domain so we better integrate domain expertise, fresh & unique data, and niche down to differentiate.

Are developers and PMs in the same position as journalists in the late 90’s? The author argues that genAI will drive the cost of creating software to 0, disrupting the dominant SaaS business model, the same way social media & UGCs destroyed the traditional media business model. It’s a provocative take that drove many interesting conversations on twitter (be sure to read the replies). I second Jens-Fabian opinion on this.
